Features & Capabilities of Hikvision  Turbo HD CCTV Cameras DVR System

Hikvision DS-7216HQHI-K1 is one of recommendations for home and small business owners interested in a smart analog CCTV camera system. Some of the best features you get include:

  • Connect Up to 24 CCTV Cameras

Hikvision has designed this Turbo HD DVR with sixteen (BNC) analog video outputs and one LAN (POE) port. In the default settings, the recorder can handle up to eighteen CCTV cameras: 16 analog cameras and two IP cameras. You can configure the system for all IP cameras (18 cameras) by switching between the analog signal on the management interface.

Furthermore, the digital recorder has an “Enhanced IP mode”, which increases the default IP video channels from two to eight.  If preferred, you can still switch each of the analog CCTV camera channels to IP mode.  And this can give you up to 24 channels  (8 + 16) to use with the network cameras.

Tip: The Hikvision DVR has only a single port for LAN/ Ethernet. So, you’ll have to use a POE network switch to connect the recorder with more than one IP CCTV camera.

  • Supports up to 4MP Lite Recording

Although listed as 1080p, the Turbo HD DVR is compatible with up to 4MP HDTVI, AHD, and HDCVI cameras. The recorder will record in 4MP Lite@15fps and1080p Lite/ 720p/ WD1/ 4CIF/ VGA/ CIF@30fps.

If you prefer IP network cameras, the DVR system supports up to 6MP resolution, which streams in 3K Super-HD.

  • Watch Your CCTV Cameras on 4K TV

The Hikvision Turbo HD recorder has multiple video outputs: HDMI, VGA, and CVBS. HDMI carries a digital signal of both video and audio, thereby will be a bit crispier than the VGA that carries an analog (video-only) signal.

When you use the DVR with a monitor via VGA cable, you’ll also need to connect an (RCA) audio cord as well. But most analog CCTV cameras (and older IP cameras) usually don’t have built-in audio. So, you’ll need to hook up an external mic, and then plug the other end of the cable to the recorder’s audio input.

Note: The HDMI output of the Hikvision DVR can project on a 4K TV/ monitor. However, the resolution will appear best with 6MP IP cameras, instead of 1080p or 720p images that are a bit more upscaled.

  • More Free Storage than You Need

Hikvision DVR system has only a single interface to connect to a SATA hard drive. The single interface can handle a maximum capacity of 10TB. If that isn’t enough for your needs, the recorder has two USB ports: front and rear.

The two USB ports mean you can use one for an external hard drive and the other for a wired mouse.

  • High-Efficiency Video Coding  (HEVC)

Hikvision Turbo HD DVR system carries plenty of CCTV cameras (up to 24) that will require more space for storage. The recorder also supports multiple recording options: scheduled, event, and continuous. Continuous recording mode usually requires more storage space than scheduled and event/ motion-activated options.

Fortunately, the recorder supports video compression at up to HEVC H.265 protocols: H.265, H.265 Pro, and H.265 Pro+. Thus, the cameras can record the same video quality in a relatively smaller storage space (Saves up to 50%).

Besides storage, the high-efficiency video coding also reduces the bandwidth consumption of your network cameras. So, you can remotely view all the cameras on the Hik-Connect mobile app or web client without lagging your internet like H.264.

  • Get Alerts that Matter in Real Time

Hikvision Turbo HD DVR recorder supports basic and smart motion detection to help you keep an eye on what matters most. Basic motion detection is where you just set the recorder to trigger alerts when the CCTV camera detects all movements.

On the other hand, smart motion detection brings you perimeter protection, with line crossing detection and intrusion detection. The recorder also lets you set sudden scene change detection, which triggers an alarm if someone changes the camera’s focus area.

That said, you should know the recorder limits the line crossing detection/ intrusion detection to only two channels.  But you can enable the “Enhanced VCA mode” feature to increase the intelligent detection to four channels.

Note: Your analog CCTV cameras won’t have smart detection if the “Enhanced IP mode” is on. Also, enabling “Enhanced VCA mode” will disable 4 MP (video) signal input and  2K/ 4K HDMI output resolution.
